Ricardo Delgado. Founder of TangoAr Buenos Aires in 2003 & London in 2012.
“I like to teach the art and the real essence of tango to each of my students as I believe, in this way, the knowledge that I aim to instill in them will last forever.“
Ricardo Delgado is the maestro and founding resident at the TangoAr Dance Academy in London. A professional tango dancer, teacher and choreographer, Ricardo is recognised for his unique pedagogical approach to teaching and his passion to share his gift for tango. As a choreographer and professional dancer, Ricardo has directed and danced the shows, Cuatro Estilos al 2 x 4 which premiered in Buenos Aires, and De Gardel a Piazzolla which had its premiere in Sofia, Bulgaria.
Ricardo grew up with Tango. His father, a scholar of classical music and his grandfather Manuel, a virtuoso violinist in a tango trio, immersed Ricardo in the music of tango. Listening to tango, and especially the music of Carlos Gardel, he learned to really feel the music; and then the movements, more than simply steps. Ricardo’s formal tango education started in early childhood at the Escuela Nacional Don Luis Jose de Chorroarin in Rosario, where he learned tango & folkloric dance.
Living in a community with dance at its heart – carnivals, birthday celebrations, festivals were held in the cobbled streets and entire blocks of people would come together to celebrate and dance – this was the real school, the place where discovery of the true essence of tango really started.
Ricardo went on to train with some of the great Tango Maestros in Buenos Aires, including the legendary “Chique”, Daniela Arcuri and Armando Orzuza, Gustavo Naveira and Giselle Anne as well as Eduardo Cappussi and Mariana Flores.
In 2003 Ricardo founded TangoAr Buenos Aires, an academy of Tango, in San Telmo, the tango heart of Buenos Aires. In 2012 Ricardo opened TangoAr Dance Academy and Culture Club in London. He now teaches in London, Buenos Aires, and across Cuba and Europe.
